Declaration of Independence Transcript
The time you invest in reading this is worthy and brought me pride and reflection. I found it most interesting to read the grievances of the authors representing the 13 Colonies, and the courage to challenge the strongest country in the world. As we find our way through the turbulence of today’s chaotic world, it is important to lean on the foundation of democracy’s principles and the vision of these 56 delegates who eventually signed our nation’s Declaration of Independence. Much pain, suffering, and sacrifice since has allowed us to prevail as the world’s greatest superpower and a free country. With all our faults, the process of democracy works its way through. Let’s celebrate with honor this great day.
One day after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, John Adams wrote a letter to his wife, Abigal Adams, which read, “The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival… It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.”
Enjoy your celebrations and be safe.
